Overview
At Eleven Productions, our internship program is designed to offer an immersive, real-world experience inside a fast-paced, full-service production company. Based in Birmingham, AL, we work on a wide range of projects—from commercials and docu-series to branded content and short films—and we bring interns into the heart of that creative process. We’re a highly collaborative team that believes in the power of bringing the best minds together to create meaningful, impactful work. As an intern, you’ll collaborate with a diverse range of professionals—directors, producers, editors, and crew members—while contributing meaningfully to the process. In return, we expect you to bring the same spirit of openness, dependability, and teamwork to every task.
Expectations + Opportunities
Internships are unpaid, but interns may have opportunities to fill paid crew roles on active productions based on availability and performance. We treat this program like a professional training environment—interns follow a structured schedule and are expected to be dependable, punctual, and fully engaged. You'll get hands-on experience in production, post, studio management, and on-set support, and you’ll be included in the real workflows that drive client and creative projects forward. We also provide a brief required reading list to help prepare you for the expectations, pace, and etiquette of working on set and in production environments. Please see below for application deadlines, scheduling requirements, and how to apply.
What You Might Work On
As an intern at Eleven Productions, you won’t just observe—you’ll participate across departments and gain real experience that mirrors the day-to-day work of a functioning production company. Here’s just a glimpse of what that could look like:
Post-Production:
Work with our award-winning post team on real projects—everything from episodic series to commercials and short films. Learn the ins and outs of editing workflows, get hands-on with footage, assist with organization and delivery, and possibly even earn yourself a credit on a project.
Production & Producing:
Partner with our producer to help bring projects from pitch to wrap. That could mean helping build treatments and pitch decks, prepping crew paperwork and deal memos, or assisting with the logistics that keep a shoot running smoothly. You'll also see how we wrap productions—handling invoices, closing out budgets, and delivering final assets.
On-Set Experience:
Step into the action on real film and photo sets. Depending on the production, you may fill PA or assistant roles, or even work directly with our director, AD, or producer. This is your chance to experience the organized chaos of set life—and to help bring creative ideas to life.
Studio Operations:
Help us keep one of Birmingham’s only full-service production studios running. From managing gear inventory and prepping equipment to assisting with studio rentals or, yes, taking out the recycling—it all matters. You'll learn what it really takes to run a busy, client-ready space.
Each semester, interns at Eleven Productions have the unique opportunity to lead their own start-to-finish creative project—not just for practice, but for a real brand. As sponsors of Team Eleven Productions Racing, our cycling team, we partner with the team’s official sponsors to give interns a chance to concept, plan, and produce a short-form video for use on social media.
Interns will be assigned one of the team’s sponsors and will be responsible for every phase of production: researching the brand, crafting a creative treatment, presenting the concept to the Eleven Productions team, and pitching it directly to the client. From there, they’ll plan the shoot—select dates, arrange talent, organize gear, storyboard if needed, and recruit support from other interns or 11Pro staff—then shoot, edit, and present the final piece. These projects are designed for vertical, social-first platforms and are published on both the @elevenproductionsracing and @elevenproductions Instagram accounts—giving interns a published, portfolio-worthy piece with real-world reach. With guidance and mentorship from our team throughout the process, this is your chance to own a creative project from day one to delivery.

From Our Past Interns:
My experience as in intern at Eleven Productions in 2017 was one of the best. Stephen fosters such a warm, fun, bright environment. He makes everyone there feel like they are part of a community. I learned so much from Stephen including how to master studio lighting, archiving photography, building professional relationships, and team leadership! I’d recommend an internship at Eleven Productions to anyone wanting to learn the ins and outs of photography AND accumulate a wide range of professional, career building skills.

Everyone at Eleven was so inviting and welcoming. They helped me gain valuable insight and on-job experience in all aspects of production. My internship prepared me for the future and I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunities they provided me.
- Benjamin Swearingen, former intern and filmmaker
I had nothing but an amazing time at Eleven Productions. They allowed me to work on many project’s at the studio and even PA on sets during my time. I can’t recommend this internship enough if you want some real hands on experience!
- Zander Hooks, former intern and freelance photographer
I learned so much during my time at Eleven Productions where I was able to get real world Photography and Videography experience from the beginning. When presented with the opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team, I got to witness firsthand both the business and creative sides of the industry up close and personal in a way you wouldn't get at another studio. All this against the backdrop of the growing production scene across Birmingham and the Southeast made for a very memorable and worthwhile professional experience.
